A Mess of Musings and Randomosity

okay, do you see a wolf howling?

Arcade Fire - Sprawl II (Mountains Beyond Mountains)

Gotta say, I am ever-so-slightly excited about the new Shins album

March is just around the riverbend…

For those of you, like me, who crave previews Pitchfork has some live vid of new tracks

Official video for Born To Die by Lana Del Rey

Pitchfork’s tagline:

"The full thing features a volatile relationship with said tattooed dude, two tigers, and a lot of blood."

I giggled while watching this video…but it is a bit intense.

Unofficial Youth Lagoon video for “Seventeen”

This vid has been out for a while, but YL somehow manages to sound better with each listen.  No, its not a conspiracy, just good music.

Imagine, if you will, a man who, as Speaker of the House, orchestrates the impeachment of a President for an adulterous affair with a White House aide twenty-six years his junior while he himself is conducting an adulterous affair with a congressional aide twenty-two years his junior, having earlier left the first of his three wives while she was hospitalized with cancer. Imagine a man who attributes these behaviors to “how passionately I felt about this country.” Imagine a man who, told he can’t sit in a front section of Air Force One, shuts down the government. Imagine a man who becomes the only House Speaker ever to be disciplined for ethics violations. Imagine a man who, in a country just staggering out of the worst recession of the past fifty years and facing the threat of worldwide economic collapse, proposes to hire small children to work as janitors, mopping floors and cleaning toilets in their schools (or their orphanages, perhaps). Imagine that man as Commander-in-Chief.

HONESTLY, probably the most haunting, beautiful, nostalgic, amazing, heart-wrenching, creative, evocative, inspirational, intense SONG I have listened to in a long while.

I was not an instant fan of Youth Lagoon, but after a fair listen I am.

The video is beautiful and simple, relating an emotional personal story that is quite in line with the overall tone of the track.

I do love this…

Every time he would put in an application, the first thing that would pop up was ‘Are you a U.S. citizen?’ No. ‘Resident?’ No. ‘Social Security number?’ No. It was all just mounting and mounting on top of him. I truly believe that if that Dream Act would have already passed, he would still be here today.

Joaquin Luna Jr.’s brother, Diyer Mendoza.  The suicide of Joaquin Luna Jr. is a tragedy that speaks to issues of immigration, naturalization, higher education, and mental health.  While it is unclear EXACTLY why Luna took his own life, it is obvious that depression stemming from a belief that he would never fulfill his dreams played a part.
